How You Can Build a Trusting Relationship With Your Employees
Monday, February 24, 2020 business business practices

One of the most important aspects of being a business leader is making sure that your relationship with your employees is on a positive level. Studies have shown that employees who genuinely care about their work and the company they work with are more likely to produce better results. However, this all starts at the top. Therefore, here are a few ways you can begin to build a positive and trusting relationship with your employees.

Set Standards in the Workplace

If there is one thing that both business leaders and staff benefit from, it is structure. Therefore, it is important to instill standards in the workplace. These should include but are not limited to policies regarding respect among coworkers and phone etiquette, to name a few aspects that you should consider. Sexual harassment policies should also be carefully crafted and implemented in the workplace. Having sexual harassment agreements and policies implemented in the workplace can help employees feel safe and help them have trust in you. Your expectations for your staff, as well as other managers, should be clear and thoroughly communicated to everyone in your organization.

Lead With Integrity

When issues arise within a company, the first thing HR will look into is the company's policies. The reality is that it is often not the policies that are the issue but the lack of follow-through of these policies from management. Therefore, it is incredibly vital to lead your business with integrity. This should be included from small to large issues in the company. For example, if you promise an employee that you will take the time to speak with them, then you must follow through with your promise. In more serious instances, a business leader must always adhere to the same standards and consequences they have placed on their own staff.

Be Transparent

Business is like a roller coaster; you're going to have your ups and your downs. The most important thing to do is to be transparent with your employees about the current situation. Without a certain level of transparency, employees will quickly feel disconnected and even worried. This, of course, can lead to less-than-stellar work and low productivity.

Having the trust of your employees can no doubt be a very beneficial thing for your company. Thus, it is incredibly vital as a business leader to adhere to the list above and begin forming a positive and trusting relationship with your employees.
